Anyone who knows me well knows that I absolutely LOVE coffee. Whether it’s working from home or studying, I can always be found with a caffeinated beverage in my hand. I tried Sea Salt Cream Iced Coffee for the first time over a decade ago at one of my favorite spots, 85 Bakery and Cafe. I know it sounds sort of strange… salt in your coffee… but seriously this drink is SO good! You at least have to give it a try! Here is the recipe I follow below:
Sea Salt Cream Iced Coffee
Yields: 2 Servings
¼ cup heavy whipping cream
⅛ tsp sea salt
2 cups of coffee, cooled
Ice
Optional: Sweetener of your choice
Optional: Cocoa powder (to garnish)
Start by combining the heavy whipping cream and sea salt. Using an electric hand mixer with the whisk attachment, whip the cream mixture on a low speed until the cream has thickened but doesn’t completely form soft peaks quite yet (for me this usually takes between 1 minute to 1 minute and 15 seconds).
In a separate cup, prepare your iced coffee. Sometimes I will use a cold brew concentrate instead or make an iced americano. This is really just personal preference so you can use any sort of caffeinated beverage that you’d like! If you aren’t into coffee or just want to mix it up, try iced jasmine tea or any other tea of your choosing. If you would like to add sweetener to the drink, add it to the coffee base. I personally like to add a little maple syrup to balance the sea salt cream. You can add the sweetener to your preference, I usually add about a teaspoon or two.
This recipe yields two servings. If I’m just making this beverage for myself, I’ll prepare one cup of iced coffee and top it with half of the sea salt cream mixture and store the remainder. To store the sea salt cream, cover the mixture with plastic wrap and refrigerate. The mixture will stay good for about 2 days in the refrigerator. I like to garnish my coffee with a little cocoa powder on top, but this is totally optional!
